Can I apply to be a substitute teacher?

Generally speaking, primary school teachers, supervisory staff, and technical personnel are replaced on a daily basis. Secondary teachers and administrative staff are replaced only during extended absences.

Please specify your area of interest for substituting. You must hold a teaching license to substitute.

I have been told that I will obtain my work permit faster if I have a job offer. Is this true?

Our experience does not show that a job offer will speed up the process. CiMF does not extend any job offers to applicants who are not legally authorized for employment.

I will have all my work documents before the academic year begins, but, for the moment, I am not authorized to work. Will my application still be examined?

No. We have to be able to count on you being available for employement on the first day of the school year. It is your responsibility to make sure your credentials are in order beforehand.

I don’t have my teaching license but I want to teach only at the collegiate (Cégep) level. May I apply for a position?

All faculty members (except for philsophy instructors) are expected to teach at the middle and high school levels. Your application will not be considered.

I went to school and university in France but I am not a certified teacher. Can I teach at CiMF?

No. You must obtain a teaching license from the Quebec Ministry of Education. We encourage people to contact the Ministry of Education as quickly as possible given that the licensing process can often take quite some time.

What is the application process at CiMF?

Most positions are published in May under the heading “Positions Available.” Priority is given to candidates already working at CiMF. Only when there is no one available internally does the school examine outside candidates. Only a few applicants are called in for an interview. Interviews are held with members of the administration and the local union. For faculty positions, knowledge of the French educational system is highly desired.
